Miles has a deep and abiding love for Uncle Spencer. It has been almost comical because when in a room with Spencer, he will lunge himself until he ends up in Spencer's arms. Spencer of course eats up the attention and was happy to have Miles hang out with him at his low key birthday bash.
Grant was eager to help Miles open his presents and thankfully Miles was willing to have "help". Grant loves all occasions where he gets to show off in front of his family members and he was eating up the attention.
Miles learned to crawl around 9 months (he started trying much earlier, but I yanked his legs out from under him for a few weeks because I was not ready for him to be mobile yet!!). He loved his new found freedom!! His favorite things include crawling around the corner at record pace to see what everyone else is up to and racing for daddy when he gets home from work. Jerolyn got him these sweet elmo PJ's for his birthday and I laughed when they were a 2T size. Miles was 8lb 11 oz when he was born, but quickly dropped in percentiles. Here is a quick glance at his stats over the last year (for my benefit):
2 week- Weight: 8 lbs 7 oz (47%), Height- 20.75 inches (62%) Head- 14.25 (64%)
2 month- Weight : 10 lbs (19%), Height- 22. 5 inches (36%), Head- 15 (27%)
4 month- Weight: 13 lbs 14 oz (5%), Height- 25 inches (37 %), Head- 16.25 (34%)
6 month- Weight: 16 lbs 10 oz (23%), Height- 26 inches (12%), Head- 17.25 (53%)
9 month- Weight: 19 lbs (37%), Height- 28 inches (33 %), Head - 18 (71%)
12 month- Weight: 23 lbs 7 oz (79%), Height- 29.5 inches (30%), Head- 18.5 (74%)
You can see that his growth has been all over the place. I laughed because for his first 9 months, he was pretty slow to gain weight and quite small. You can see that when he was started on solid foods and transitioned away from nursing full time, his weight skyrocketed. Since as I am writing this, he is now 16 months, I would guess that he weighs almost 30 lbs and is probably in the 98%. Those 2T PJ's are fitting perfectly and he practically skipped over all of Grant's 12 month clothes. What can I say... Miles likes to eat. He is not picky about much and some of his favorites include steamed broccoli, fruit of ALL varieties, toast, and yogurt. He loves his milk and switched over to cows milk with no problems at all. He makes an hhmmmm sound after he savors every bite and loves to master his own spoon and fork.
Back to his party. We were lucky to have Grandma Jer visiting and also had my parents and Kellie and Spencer over for some cupcakes. This year has passed so quickly and we had very different emotions with Miles than we did celebrating Grant's first birthday. It is so nice to just watch Miles experience all new things and see the joy on his face.
We got him this cute ride on toy and Grant has a hard time believing that it is not his.
Grant is always so creative and LOVES to build. He took the cardboard from a toy and immediately turned it into a fire ladder on his train/firetruck. I love to watch his imagination.
Grant was still relishing in his trip to meet the Piano Guys. He got this toy on and pretended it was a microphone. He wandered around the room interviewing people and saying "Hi, my name is Jon Schmidt. Do you have any requests for me?"
Grant helped with the candle and Miles started very daintily tasting the frosting.
Then he discovered that a faceplant was a much more effective method for consumption.
After all that, he needed some milk to wash it down.
Happy Birthday Miles! We love you so much and can't imagine life without you and your mischief!
